I’ve always believed that the heart of Seoul isn’t found in guidebooks or trendy spots, but in the quiet corners — the tiny restaurants, hidden cafés, and backstreets that tell their own stories. Hidden Seoul Food began as my way of sharing those discoveries — places I’ve stumbled upon by chance, meals that surprised me, and spaces that capture the city’s soul. This blog is for anyone who loves exploring what’s unseen, tasting what’s forgotten, and finding beauty in the hidden sides of Seoul.

Artichoke, Aloft Seoul: A Hidden Italian Gem 🍕🇮🇹
Aloft Seoul Gangnam
736 Yeongdong-daero, Gangnam District, Seoul
This review is for Artichoke, an Italian restaurant tucked away on the second floor of Aloft Seoul. I had no idea it was here until I spotted a small sign by chance. The restaurant relocated from Apgujeong a few years ago, yet surprisingly, it’s still not widely listed on Google or most review sites — almost like a hidden secret for those in the know.
Both the food and service really impressed me. The pizza isn’t overly fancy or “gourmet.” Still, it carries a nostalgic, comforting flavor, reminiscent of the kind you’d find in a small town in Illinois, run by a true Italian family. The pasta and other dishes are unique, thoughtfully prepared, and delicious, with clear attention to quality ingredients. Prices are very reasonable for the caliber of food, which makes the experience even better.
If you’re seeking authentic yet approachable Italian cuisine, away from the usual crowded spots, Artichoke is absolutely worth discovering.
