Cafe Gid, Sokcho: Coffee with a View of Seorak 🌄☕

 Cafe Gid 긷

I finally made it to Cafe Gid, a spot that quietly opened its doors about three years ago but somehow stayed off my radar—until now. Tucked away in a corner of Sokcho, this café might just be one of the area’s best-kept secrets. Though judging by the steady stream of visitors, maybe the secret is already out.

The real draw here is the view. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame a sweeping, almost cinematic panorama of Ulsanbawi Rock and the majestic Seorak Mountain range beyond. It’s the kind of sight that makes you pause mid-sentence, mid-sip, mid-scroll. You don’t come here just for the coffee — you come for a moment of stillness, perspective, and the feeling of being somewhere that reminds you just how beautiful Korea can be.

Of course, breathtaking views often come with a price tag, and Cafe Gid is no exception — think Cheongdam-dong pricing, even out here in Sokcho. But the quality holds its own, and one menu item especially stood out: the corn ice cream. Sweet, creamy, with a subtle roasted corn flavor, it was both nostalgic and novel — unexpectedly delightful.

Sokcho offers many stunning vistas, but if you want to linger with a coffee in hand and mountains on the horizon, this is the spot to do it. Sometimes, the perfect getaway is just one cup of coffee and a window seat away.
