I’ve always believed that the heart of Seoul isn’t found in guidebooks or trendy spots, but in the quiet corners — the tiny restaurants, hidden cafés, and backstreets that tell their own stories. Hidden Seoul Food began as my way of sharing those discoveries — places I’ve stumbled upon by chance, meals that surprised me, and spaces that capture the city’s soul. This blog is for anyone who loves exploring what’s unseen, tasting what’s forgotten, and finding beauty in the hidden sides of Seoul.

Waiting in Line for Bread? Worth It for 베통 🍞✨
Beton Salt Bread
Shinsagae Gangnam
I’m not usually one to wait in line for anything — least of all bread. But today, I made an exception for 베통.
First, let me clarify: the 소금빵s aren’t really for me. I’m picking them up as gifts for friends who’ve never tried them — and probably never will, since they’d rather sit through a boring lecture than queue for bread. But more importantly, it was my chance to see what all the hype is about.
So, what’s my verdict after biting into my first 베통 소금빵? It’s definitely not your typical light, puffy, buttery, salty bread. 베통’s version is heavier, with a crunchy exterior, a moist, buttery interior, and just the right touch of salt to make each bite memorable.
It’s not necessarily “better” — just very different. If your usual 소금빵 is like a casual, lightweight Uniqlo — practical and easy — this one is Burberry: structured, premium, and made with intent. A total statement piece.
The flavors are worth strategizing over: figgy, sesame, plain, and truffle are my top picks. Just note — it’s only four per person, so choose wisely.
Waiting in line might not be my thing, but for this? I’d make the exception again.
